Talk about frustrated. I am really getting tired of feeling like I never have a chance to get my work done. I am still in undergrad, and the metalsmithing program I am in is phenomenal. However, the dept. doesn't really seem to see the program as an asset. Studio access is limited to M-F, 7am -9pm, no weekends or late nights. If they find out we are in the studio outside of those hours, open studio is closed for sure. A big issue is our instructor isn't tenured faculty, she is just academic staff (less coverage by the univerisy in terms of insurance). It's been relatively decent in terms of getting work done during that time frame, but you know, people have other things to do. I can't skip everything else I have going on (classes, work, etc...) just to be in there all the time (well, I can, and I would, but graduating and having a place to live/food in my stomach is nice from time to time.) And unfortunately for me, plopping down money for all the equipment for a metals studio is out of the question. It's easy enough to plug in a computer, and set up a painting on table, or hand pull some prints or play with clay in a basement, but setting up a torch system with venting for ferric and nitric is out of the question when you live in a tiny old, run down house with no garage, basement, or utility room. I guess it's just getting frustrating, wanting to work, and being expected to work, but not being able to. Damnit. I think on top of it all, I need an adorable girl to curl up with. And I'm hungry
